About Brussings choir

The Brusinky choir ('the Brussings')...

...came to existence in 2006 and was first directed by Premek Zak. After the Zak couple left Brussels, the choir developed, both in terms of profile and orientation, under the successive direction of choirmasters Eva Lajkepova, Radim Dvorak and Darina Krausova. Since autumn 2023, the choir has been under the direction of Adam Gono, who has also revived the chamber orchestra Czech Sinfonietta Brussels and enriched this symbiosis with pieces of music in his own adaptations.

 Who are we ?

Without much exaggeration, we are a constantly changing group. Among the regular singers are mostly Czech employees of the EU institutions, teachers of the « Czech section » at the European school, occasional members of diplomatic missions, their partners, now and again Czech students attending Belgian universities, trainees,  au-pair girls...  in short, people who somehow happened to find themselves in Brussels. We are glad to be ‘in the hands’ of Adam, a Slovak, and have among us several colleagues of other nationalities, with ties to the Czech or Slovak culture. Above all, we all enjoy singing together.

At what occasions do we sing ?

Both smaller and bigger ones. In 2014, for instance, Brusinky performed the Te Deum cantata by Antonin Dvorak with an orchestra, at the festive concert commemorating the 10 years of the accession of the Czech Republic to the EU. Two years later, the choir took part in a multimedia performance of Dvorak's Rusalka. At these occasions, we cooperated with professional soloists and our friends from the En Arche choir of Prague. In 2019, we had the opportunity to sing at the Brussels Royal Conservatory at a concert given by Vladimir Bukac, the renowned Czech alto player and professor at the Conservatory.

We have established a cooperation with the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic in the EU as well as with the Czech Embassy in Belgium, and occasionally accompany their events with music.  To our public, our annual concert with the performance of the Christmas mass by Jakub Jan Ryba has become a part of the Brussels Advent tradition and a get-together not to be missed. Living up to the challenge, we make it a bit different every year, including a shortened online version in Covid times.  For this and the next year´s Christmas concert, we are supported by a new partner, ARICOMA IT company.
